South Korean Netflix show wins ‘Asian Emmys’ in Vietnam

The prestigious Asian Television Awards took place in Vietnam for the first time at the Hoa Binh Theater in Ho Chi Minh City’s District 10 on Saturday night. The event brings together participants from various Asian countries including South Korea, Japan, China, Singapore, Thailand, the Philippines, India, and Vietnam.

The awards ceremony recognized outstanding achievements in the television industry, presenting over 20 prizes in different categories. The South Korean show ‘Taxi Driver 2,’ which was internationally released on Netflix, won the Best Drama Series title.

The series, starring Lee Je Hoon, captured the attention of Vietnamese audiences with its breathtaking scenes filmed at iconic landmarks in Ho Chi Minh City, Da Nang City, Thua Thien-Hue Province, and Quang Ninh Province.

Both Lee Je Hoon and actress Shim So Young were seen wearing traditional Vietnamese ‘ao dai’ (long gown) in the drama.

The Best Original Digital Drama award was won by the South Korean streaming service TVING’s original drama ‘Island’.

Vietnamese actor Nguyen Quoc Truong Thinh, known for his roles in ‘Bui Doi Cho Que’ and the TV program ‘2 Days 1 Night Vietnam,’ received nominations for the Best Leading Male Performance – Digital and the Best Adaptation for An Existing Format awards. However, he did not win in these categories.

The Asian Television Awards has been running since 1996 and is often referred to as the ‘Emmys of Asia.’ The winners are selected by a committee consisting of over 50 members.
